Hamble Charters Are a Great Choice

    Back to Blog

The pretty village of Hamble-le-Rice, on the eastern shore of Southampton Water, is one of the most popular boating destinations in the UK — and for very good reason. If you're looking for a Solent boat charter that combines easy access, stunning scenery and an enormous choice of boats, Hamble is hard to beat.

Easy Access from London and Beyond

One of Hamble's biggest advantages is how easy it is to reach. The M27 motorway runs just to the north of the village, and that connects directly into the M3 for London and the M25 for the rest of the country. From central London you can be stepping aboard a charter boat in the Hamble in well under two hours — and there's plenty of parking right by the marinas. For groups travelling from the Midlands, the South West or the Home Counties, the road links are equally good.

Beautiful Scenery on a Sheltered River

The River Hamble itself is genuinely beautiful. Wooded banks line both sides of the river, dotted with traditional boatyards, classic yachts and pretty waterside pubs. It's a wonderfully sheltered stretch of water, which means even on breezier days the start and end of your charter is calm and relaxed. The river meanders gently from Hamble Point down past Warsash and Bursledon, and the views from the water are some of the prettiest on the South Coast.

    World-Class Marinas

Hamble is home to some of the best marinas in the country — Hamble Point, Port Hamble, Mercury and Universal — all packed with high quality charter boats and serviced by experienced operators. The facilities are excellent, the pontoons are well maintained, and the whole area has a real boating heritage that you can feel as soon as you arrive.

Quick Access to The Solent and the Isle of Wight

From the mouth of the Hamble you're straight out into the central Solent, with Cowes directly opposite and the rest of the Isle of Wight within easy reach. Osborne Bay, the Beaulieu River, Newtown Creek and Yarmouth are all comfortable day-trip destinations, and on a fast boat The Needles are well within range too. Hamble's central location on the Solent gives you genuine flexibility to choose your destination based on the wind and tide on the day.

A Huge Variety of Charter Boats

Few places in the UK can match Hamble for the sheer variety of charter boats on offer. Whether you want a luxurious motor cruiser for a corporate day, a fast Axopar or sports boat for a smaller group, a thrilling RIB for a birthday celebration, or a classic sailing yacht for a relaxed cruise, you'll find it here. Capacities range from a couple of guests right up to twelve, and budgets from a few hundred pounds for a half-day RIB trip up to several thousand for a top-end motor yacht.

Bareboat Charters — No Skipper Needed

One of the things that really sets Hamble apart is the strong availability of bareboat charters. If you hold a suitable powerboat qualification — typically an RYA Powerboat Level 2 as a minimum, with Day Skipper preferred for larger boats — you can hire a boat without a skipper and run the day yourself. It's a fantastic option for experienced boaters who want full freedom over their day on the water, and it usually works out significantly cheaper than a skippered charter. Skippered options are of course also widely available if you'd prefer to sit back and enjoy the ride.

    The Bottom Line

Hamble offers an unbeatable combination: easy motorway access, stunning sheltered scenery, top quality marinas, quick access to the Solent and Isle of Wight, and a huge choice of boats including the rare benefit of widely available bareboat options. Whether you're a first-time charterer or an experienced boater looking to skipper your own day, Hamble deserves to be at the top of your list.
